CEO Report
For year ending 30th June 2025

We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated small team making up
our committee together together with a group of very loyal support
volunteers. Please remember to say thank you.
My illnesses seem to make it even more difficult for me to make any
input but after nearly 30 years since we started my desire is still 110%.
Amanda Lewis has stepped up and with the active support of
Lauren Milne we have a new interactive website and ongoing funding
from the Bendigo Bank.
It would be remiss of BDI not to acknowledge the longstanding support
of Bendigo Bank. BDI is still rebuilding post Covid. We have an excellent track record of helping many hundreds of families over 2 decades.
The ongoing changes in online technology really see fewer users wanting a desktop. We also see families giving IPads/Androids to senior family members but not the follow up help which we provide. If BDI supplies equipment we will replace damaged/failed equipment which can be a cost saving to pensioners/lower income members.
Many thanks to our team; Amanda, Lauren, Cindy, Ian, Klaus, Malcolm, Martyn, Chris, Gary and Robert.

Treasurer’s Report 30th June 2025
Tabled and read by Amanda Lewis
Closing bank balance at the end of the 2025 Financial year was $22,206 ($42,388)
We note that BDI raised $24,934 ($16,369) against expenditure of $57,903 ($39,545). Gratefully due to past generous benefactors, a significant portion of our funds is held on term deposits with Bendigo Bank, funding modern broadband capable equipment and to fund wireless broadband for our members. With nearly all our members onto a bank debit systems, and fewer donations, member fundraising was $3,243 ($4,554), donations $1,766 ($599) and grants reflects the long term support of our local Bendigo Bank.
Beyond Disability values the support of Bendigo Bank Community Fund.
Management of our funds through the cash management account achieved interest of $14,924 ($2,572) and this has helped offset our $28,195 ($23,175) deficit covered by funds already pledged to meet these increased technology/broadband costs.

Funds placed in bank term deposits for the ongoing broadband and technology costs.
Expenses for the year were $57,876 ($39,567). Our largest expenses were in the area of technology totalling $28,050 ($20,583). Business expenses for the financial year totalled $2,376($1,404).
We continue to maintain AON Volunteer Insurance package which has been constructed for community volunteer groups and we also have a separate committee insurance cover underwritten by Llyods.

Technical Report 23 July 2025
Last AGM Sat 12th Sep 2025
There have been some subtle changes this year following the return
Of Peggy to the UK. Amanda and Martyn have kindly offered their
place to hold some of our regular workshops. We have also been
getting together at a few different Cafes and Bistros to enjoy
fellowship and some giggles over a meal.

I would also again like to acknowledge the continuing work Klaus has
done with refugee and welfare organisations in re purposing older equipment before it becomes redundant.
Speaking of acknowledgements, I’d like to offer my thanks and appreciation to the excellent work our new Webmaster Lauren and along with Amanda have done to our BDI website, constantly being updated with past client history being added and current activities.

It continues to be a year of looking after our existing clients and having some new clients join our program.
With the confirmed news that Microsoft is withdrawing support for Windows 10 in October ‘25 and the cost of new devices coming down, we have been taking the opportunity of upgrading laptops and PC’s for any clients’ machines that need attention.

As we know technology keeps changing with devices such as Android phones, Tablets, Chromebooks and Apple products becoming more popular, this is a new focus that BDI is embracing.
With the initial NBN rollout completed at the end of 2020 and with more and more fibre technology being installed in 2025/6, this will mean most of our area will now have access to the new fibre network and the pricing for NBN powered plans are becoming more viable.

This can mean more people now have the option to access online streaming services such as Netflix, Paramount Plus and ABC iView if they choose to connect to their own Internet service via an Internet Service Provider.
I have again enjoyed the year with the association and the regular laughs with our committee at the Workshops and luncheons and look forward to another prosperous year in 2026.

So far this year we have been able to further help the Afghan
community with Needed laptops and desktops and was also able to
help with repairs to several laptops.
As a good will gesture we have offered to close the lease agreements
on Chromebooks so that no further payments by the Afghan recipients
of Chromebooks are necessary.
As a bonus to the Afghan community I was able to refurbish and pass on 10 large TV’s
that had been kindly donated to us by Mentone Grammar.
I am currently also arranging for computer support for the carer of one of our BDI clients.
In the near future we will likely need to upgrade several BDI clients with newer equipment as windows 11 will soon no longer support older computers that have processors older than 8th generation.
