Annual Report 2025
Connecting People with Technology
CEO Report
For year ending 30th June 2026
Tabled and Read by Richard Stubbs OAM
It’s now 30 years into our journey helping others. In 1991 after my car accident
left me with a 46% disability and chronic severe pain. I looked for something
that I could do. There was no in-home long term help to provide a safe means
of communication.
So the concept of Beyond Disability blossomed. Took a year of research and
letters, phone calls and visits to see if it was needed. Then contact all ISP’s
serving the Peninsula and no one was prepared to assist a “not for profit’.
Robert contributed many hours turning into weeks building our ISP. It also
took over a year and 3 different tax offices to get tax deductibility for donations.
There have been several hundred people aged 8 to 98 helped some on a
regular basisfor over a 1/4 of a century. That is solely due to wonderful
volunteers and committee behind the program.
There have been many highs. The awards for being the only program of our type. Both National & State.
Department of Human Services Best program Vic 2002. Rotary International Shine On award 2002. City of Casey Best volunteer program; most innovative Richard Stubbs 2002. FACSIA inclusion award 2007. MP’s national community service award 2013 and many others.
The loss of members and volunteers does impact on us all, but we go on. Losing two of our long term members Carol and our eldest member Ron, recently along with our new member Margaret has left us with sadness in our hearts.
Funding is always at the top of the list. Most fortunately a $300,000.00 donation from Stateless Systems who were impressed with foresight and ingenuity.
My heartfelt thanks to Amanda, Ian, Klaus and more recently Lauren who are the backbone of BDI.
As Stephen Hawking said “technology is redirecting human potential and what it means to be disabled.”
A quote from Carol “Thank you for the chance to move outside my 4 walls.”
Our Business plan and BDI story covers the many people and ogansiations that have helped.

Treasurer’s Report 30th June 2026

Closing bank balance at the end of the 2026 Financial year was $3,412 ($22,206).
We note that BDI raised $24,911 ($16,369) against expenditure of $39,545 ($57,903). Gratefully due to past generous benefactors, a significant portion of our funds is held on term deposits with Bendigo Bank, funding modern broadband capable equipment and to fund wireless broadband for our members. With nearly all our members onto a bank debit systems, and fewer donations, member fundraising was $3,243 ($4,565), donations $1,512 ($599) and grants reflects the long term support of our local Bendigo Bank.
Beyond Disability values the support of Bendigo Bank Community Fund.
Management of our funds through the cash management account achieved interest of $13,880 ($14,924) and this has helped offset our $27,837 ($28,195) deficit covered by funds already pledged to meet these increased technology/broadband costs.
Funds placed in bank term deposits for the ongoing broadband and technology costs.
Expenses for the year were $51,582 ($57,863). Our largest expenses were in the area of technology totalling $27,837 ($28,050). Business expenses for the financial year totalled $10,372 ($2,376).
We continue to maintain AON Volunteer Insurance package which has been constructed for community volunteer groups and we also have a separate committee insurance cover underwritten by Llyods.

Thanks to Amanda and Martyn continuing to kindly offer their place to hold some
of our regular workshops. We have also been getting together at a few different
Cafes and Bistros to enjoy fellowship and some giggles over a meal.
I would also again like to acknowledge and thank Klaus for the continuing work he has done with refugee and welfare organisations in re purposing older equipment before it becomes redundant.
Speaking of acknowledgements, I’d also like to offer my thanks and appreciation for the continuing excellent work done by our Webmaster Lauren and along with Amanda to our BDI website, constantly being updated with past client history being added and current activities.
Another acknowledgement and thanks to Amanda for the work done in applying for grants, organising our workshops with agenda’s and minutes and keeping BDI banking and financial records in tip top order so we can meet our obligations to the ATO etc.
It continues to be a year of looking after our existing clients and having some new clients join our program.
On a sad note, Vale Ron Farnill who was nearly 100 years old and an active long term BDI client.
With the news that Microsoft has withdrawn support for Windows 10 in October ‘25 and the cost of new devices becoming more viable, we have been taking the opportunity of upgrading laptops and PC’s for any clients' machines that need attention.
As we know technology keeps changing with devices such as Android phones, Tablets, Chromebooks and Apple products becoming more popular, this is a focus that BDI will continue to embrace.
With the initial NBN rollout completed at the end of 2020 and with more and more fibre technology being offered to the premise (FTTP) in 2026/7, this will mean most of our area will now have access to the new fibre network and the pricing for
NBN powered plans are becoming more acceptable. This means more people now have the option to access online streaming services such as Netflix, Paramount Plus and ABC iView if they choose to connect to their own Internet service via an Internet Service Provider.
I have again enjoyed the year with the association and the regular laughs with our committee at the Workshops and luncheons and look forward to another prosperous year in 2027

Over the past year I have continued to focus on existing clients in addition to
helping the Afghan community whenever they have had computer issues.
Knowing the many issues facing these new arrivals with language, currency, culture, etc., it has been very satisfying being able to at least help in a small way with the ongoing, computer related, technical challenges confronting them.
While there have been many good times, inevitably there were also some sad tidings during the year.
However I am looking forward to continuing helping those in need wherever possible.
Regards,
BDI technical team member ,
